Much Ado About London

May 14th
After class at the Hyde Park Chapel, everyone headed home for some much needed food. I should have done laundry, but I ended up talking to family instead. At two, Jace, Dallin, Sarah and I started out for the Tate Modern. It's the modern art/abstract museum of London. As we were coming across Millenium Bridge, we saw there was an art project going happening at the front wall. Sarah and I helped decorate the front wall with cut outs. Her's is an abstract flower and mine is a shooting star.

There were people being interviewed by television crews and more cutting out pieces of paper and taping them to the brick wall. We spent some time inside and saw a few original works by Picaso, but most of the stuff in there is weird. You don't need more than an hour and a half to see the Tate Modern. Interesting to tgo though to see all the differences in art.

We were planning for dinner at Borough, but my foot hurt so much I only got halfway. I parked it and wrote my paper while the other three went to find something to eat. I saw several people from our group going back and forth from the theatre to the restaurants while I waited. The trio brought me back a steak and kidney pie with mash potatoes. The mash potatoes were good and the meat pie was fine, but I prefer pasties. You must try all the food you can!

Waiting in line at the Globe Theatre. We wanted to be right at the foot of the stage. People probably thought we were crazy; playing card games, singing, reading, and being noisy Americans in general. Some employees of the globe changed the sign for tonight's show while we sat in front of it. We saw the touring company of Much Ado About Nothing. They are only in town for a few days. We saw their opening night. It was incredible!!! Probably the best Shakespeare show I have ever seen. How fitting that it was in the Globe.

In the Globe. No big deal.

Sitting during interval. Our time in line paid off. We stood along the front of the stage. The show was so good it did not even bother me to stand for so long. The actors would break the fourth wall every once and awhile and talk to our group. It was so funny.

Sittin on the stage. I don't think it's allowed, but I did it anyways.

As Ben pointed out, the most poorly worded advertisement on the tube.

Everyone is exhausted and starting to creep up on each others' nerves in the program. It is just stressful because everyone has a list of things they want to do, but you do not want to do it alone (and technically I do not think you are supposed to). Hopefully this weekend ends with many adventures and everyone satisfied. I will need to find a time to do laundry at some point. Doing a load here is the equivalent of $8 to was and dry. Too bad buying all new clothes just is not an option. There is just so much to do. I don't want to sleep.

Our group hashtag is #muchadoaboutlondon. I have not posted too much stuff yet on social media since I post on the blog every night, but lots of my friends tag their facebook, instagram, and maybe even twitter posts with the link. Look it up if you want to see more crazy cool pictures.
Love you all lots!!
Emily

  1. Your feelings are just like mine with the Tate Modern. We tried hard to like it only to dislike it more with every step. I guess you could say it wasn't our cup of tea. Don't you love the Millennium Bridge??

    1. Millenium Bridge is my favorite! Seeing it at night, along with St. Paul's, was even better. I'm glad we came this time of year because the weather is beautiful. How long were you in London?
