To Greenwich We Go

May 15th Continued
As I was browsing the Sherlock Holmes gift shop at 221B Baker Street I glanced at the clock and realized it was 1:15. I had to be at Westminster Pier in fifteen minutes. I was off!
I ran up the steps at Westminster Pier to the rest of our group at exactly 1:30. I felt extremely accomplished. We then bought tickets for a river cruise up the Thames. It was an excellent idea and the perfect day to be out on the water. The captain's commentary over the speaker was witty as well.

Right before we set sail.

Views from the boat.

I think I may have gotten this wrong on a previous post, but according to the captain, this is the London Bridge. It is the fourth time being built. There are several bridges over the river as I'm sure you can tell.

Two giant boats heading toward us.

Tower Bridge. It has been reopened to walk across the top. I am tempted. It is one of my favorite landmarks in London. Sadly, it was closed for awhile since so many people committed suicide there by jumping off the top.

Tower of London. Traveling there as a group later in the trip.

Closer look at Tower Bridge.

For Valerie. This is where they shot most of the movie Oliver! Many old factories still stand in London today. However, they have converted into flats.

Arriving in Greenwich. FYI, it does not sound like green-witch. It is more of of gren-idge.

The boat ride was an hour and totally worth it. I suggest it to anyone.

Dinner at Nando's! I would not be surprised if this makes its way to the U.S. soon. It is Jace's favorite restaurant and since it was his 23rd birthday, we found it fitting to eat there. It is chicken prepared different ways with different types of hot sauce. I have not been to Wagamama's yet, but I here that restaurant is a good English chain too.

Is Greenwich so classy or what?? It made me very excited for our Pemberlye trip coming soon. I mean the Chatsworth House of course.

We went into the Maritime Museum and it was one of the best museums I have been in yet. It seemed like a good mix of kid frienyl exhibitis and interesting history. There were stories and artifacts from discovers, captains, and boats. Lots of people appreciated the gift shop. How scary would it be if this thing fell on me?

Rating the Maritime museum a thumbs up with Neptune, god of the sea.

Traveling in groups can be difficult. People tend to usually rush ahead or lag behind. Worse is losing people. We lost five minutes just sitting on the grass waiting for Ben since we had no idea where he went. It's comforting to know that most people won't ditch you.

"The Queen's House" ...???? Excuse me, the Queen's house is Buckingham Palace (which we can't tour since she'll be housed there till July) and Windsor Castle. I guess she had multiple.

Just down the hill is the Prime Meridian. Whaaaat?????

This means they were all standing in the East Hemisphere and the West Hemisphere at the same time.

Two hemispheres, one me. It was legit.

We rode the bus back to district tube for an hour and half. I was guilty of falling asleep on the bus for maybe half an hour. Dallin, Brittany, and I made it to Victoria Square where they bought tickets for Wicked and I bought tickets for Billy Elliot. Neither of them had seen it yet. I could go over my whole analysis of Billy Elliot.. I do not want to ruin it for you though. I would will just announce that you go for the dancing. There is not much else.

Spider story. In the bathroom that morning I was watching my face and a spider appeared. I had to kill it with a shoe after shrieking. Justyne happened to find one later too. I wonder if it is bug bites making my skin slight l irritated. Not surprising, but annoying since we wash our sheets once a week.

  1. Oh my gosh Emily!!!! Nando's is our FAVORITE! We eat there all the time when we are there. We even got a frequent diner card! And Jim has looked into a franchise for here. There is one in Washington, D.C. but nowhere else. We even have their sauce sent to us!!! Eat some chicken for us please....... Wagamama is the best too. I love their food and you will have to eat there also. We also like Yo Sushi. Enjoy your Peri Peri
