Tate and Tart

June 7th
A well deserved sleep in day. I was ready for more adventures and at the Tate Britain by 11 though.
This museum is awesome. Maybe my favorite. The art was fun and diverse. The art galleries are sorted by decade and all the artists are British. Some rooms are more intriguing than others. I spent at least an hour and a half here milling around. I was impressed by the junior high age children sitting on the ground sketching some of the drawings. They must have all been in an art class.

I am in the modern art! One of the exhibits right now is larger than life art that you can walk underneath/in/around. I was a little nervous the wooden beams and miscellaneous objects would come crashing down on me, but they stayed in their place.

This elephant though.

Someone caption this picture. I think the given title was Smiling Lady. She definitely has some secrets.

I decided to walk to another tube station and ran across a little park that had this beauty. It is a monument celebrating the end of slavery in the UK. Exciting!

Over to Borough Market for the tart I have been anticipating and a macaroon just for good measure. It is a good thing I only had four pounds on me or else I would have convinced myself to buy the strawberry, raspberry, chocolate and caramel, and lemon meringue tarts to follow my lemon one. It was too good. I would have bought a whole box of macaroons too. This pistachio cookie was perfect. I have to learn to make these desserts when I get home. I miss baking, but trying new treats is exciting too.

This snapchat sums it all up.

I am going to tell you a sad story. Once I had eaten my Borough Market treats I decided it was time to venture over to the Leighton House. I knew the Leighton House was fairly close to home and set out. The tube stop nearest the station was closed. I changed my destination, but then exited the train at the wrong stop. Not a big deal, I would just walk a little farther. Not paying attention to a map whatsoever I became lost and ended up at a tube station in the opposite direction. Funny. Back to square one. I exited the tube at the correct stop this time and carefully began my journey again. This time maps were sparse and I was being led into a suspiciously residential neighborhood for an art gallery. I knew where the museum was supposed to be, but none of the maps had it listed. I continued on and finally found the house. I ran up the steps in triumph, but then came to a halt. This particular historical site required an entrance fee. I wold have just paid the five pounds since I went through so much effort to get there, but I did not have any money on me. I walked away dejectedly and caught a bus home. At least I rode the bus home instead of walking. We drove the a Palestinian protest against Israel. Nothing was violent. There were cops there though and people yelling into microphones. Thank goodness for the bus.

That's cool.
I spent the rest of the afternoon skyping my family and writing papers. We do a lot of that here.

Jeeves and Wooster was a great comedy. I think the show might be based of a movie or tv series. Anyways, it was hilarious. I love theatre.

  1. I ❤️ your blog! Thank you for sharing so much English beauty with us! I would title the smiling lady painting, "how you do'in" (Joey Tribiani style)
